Anima – July Adoption Day!

Anima has an adoption day outside Anima on the last Sunday of every month. On July 26, we had around 45 people visiting us in Tap Seac! Anima – International Roundtable on Greyhounds (III) – Deliver of Petition to the Government!

Anima has organized on 23-24 July an International Roundtable on Greyhounds inviting 10 Animal Welfare Organizations from around the world. These were the participants organizations: CAWA-China Animal Welfare Association from Beijing, SPCA(Taiwan), SPCA (HK), Kirsten (HK), Animals Asia (HK), Animals Asia (China), Animals Australia, RSPCA (Australia), RSPCA (UK) and GREY2K USA Worldwide. On the second day (free day) those organizations that still were in Macau had a meeting with the representative of the Macau Chief Executive, the President of IACM, Mr. Alex Vong. All associations have summarize their concerns about the Greyhounds and made an appeal for the closing of the Greyhounds track in Macau. Anima has organized on 23-24 July an International Roundtable on Greyhounds inviting 10 Animal Welfare Organizations from around the world. These were the participants organizations: CAWA-China Animal Welfare Association from Beijing, SPCA(Taiwan), SPCA (HK), Kirsten (HK), Animals Asia (HK), Animals Asia (China), Animals Australia, RSPCA (Australia), RSPCA (UK) and GREY2K USA Worldwide. Several issues were discussed (situation of the greyhounds around the world, cruelty in training animals in Australia using live animals, strong cooperation of all organizations to curb any initiative to open any new track in the world especially in the area, etc) being the Greyhounds track of Macau (The Canidrome) the main centre of all the event. Anima – July Press Conference Regarding Greyhounds!

Anima organized a press conference at 4:00 pm about the International Roundtable on Greyhounds to be held in Macau on 23rd July. We have invited ten organizations, like GREY2K USA Worldwide, RSPCA (UK), RSPCA (HK), Animals Australia, SPCA (Australia), Animals Asia (from Hong Kong) Animals Asia Foundation-China Cats and Dogs Welfare (from Guangzhou) , Capital Animal Welfare Association from Beijing (China), SPCA (Taiwan) and Kirsten from Hong Kong! Our petition to our Chief Executive for closing the Canidrome exceeded today at 15:30 the amount of 143,000 supporters, of which 145 were international organizations, 65 belonging to China (mainland). In Macau we got the support of Mawa, Masdaw and P.H.D. The other animal welfare organizations (two missing) didn’t answer our letters, emails or even phones and sms! McSorley’s Ale House in Venetian is an unpretentious place to enjoy good food, meet up with friends to enjoy your favorite sporting event or enjoy a casual weekend brunch. What Anima and our friends have done to stop the bloody business of Canidrome!

In Macau nobody is authorized to go inside the Canidrome to have a picture! Even the NGOs like Anima! All is a secret business, broadcast in live as nobody goes there! Broadcasting in live creates the potential of huge illegal betting In Macau and in Mainland China! Is this what the community wants? No! The Government has to stop this bloody business! The Greyhounds Racing Truth

In Macau the situation is even worst: 30 dogs are being killed at a very young age, between one and three years old. The effect of that killing is that the track replaces all animals (around 700) in two years time! We have calculated with the information provided by the Macau track that they are killing of around 30 animals per month. The number of animals being inactive for reasons such as tiredness, injuries or sickness reaches, using the track’s own numbers, is more than 40 per cent in several months! The ratio of injury is over 20 percent in many months also. The track is old and the number of races per day as well the number of races per month exceeds the good sense. Even in an old track we believe that those figures are not real, meaning only an excuse for them to kill innocent animals...
