Message from the President

Dear friends,

We may not survive this year if we are not capable to balance our accounts and generate enough funds to support our daily activities for the protection of animals and our campaigns to inform and educate the community, specially children and young people.

Anima is facing in his beginning of 2017 a very serious financial situation with a liability of MOP 2,319,704.91, a consequence of the increase of our activity in the last years.
Our expenses have jumped due to the extreme expensive bills from vet clinics (last year we paid MOP 1,015,396.50 with vets clinics), food for animals (MOP 1,157,435.43), including animals in sites as we help more than 30 areas out of Anima, helping around 1,900 cats and 377 dogs, besides our own animals that reach 584 (only dogs and cats, excluding hamsters, rabbits and turtles)!
Our total expenses “directly” with animals reached last year MOP 3,019,531.75!
The number of our rescues in the last two years reached 873, of which 481 were cats and 392 were dogs.
We are not counting with birds, squirrels, snakes, turtles and tortoises, hamsters, rabbits or hedgehogs.
We have rescued 142 of these animals in the last years and we still have with us hamsters, turtles and rabbits, as all the other species, once treated, are released immediately!
We support many poor members of our community with food, medical care and de-sex for their animals, completely free!
And in our clinic we practice very low prices, with a minor margin of 5 to 10 per cent over the prices of the medication, and the cost of our work is completely free!
Our main job out of Anima is to protect those homeless animals and those poor members of our community that, for several reasons, that I do not want to elaborate now, have lots of animals at home or handle lots of animals in streets or sites!
This is our job and we are happy if we can continue to support them!
Besides all that, Anima as received in 2016, 7,519 visitors and volunteers, a growth of 30.4 per cent, being 1,378 visitors from 128 groups of schools, associations and companies.
We organized or participated in Macau in 37 events, mainly in schools and in adoptions activities, reaching around 2,632 people!
Unfortunately, if we are not capable to raise more money we will have to begin to reduce our activity, releasing staff and reduce our help outside our shelters!
We have now two shelters and, as I told before, more than 30 sites under our Special Protection Program (SPP), paying all bills related to food and medical care (including de-sex).
We are sorry if you call us now and ask for our support and we are not capable to help you as before.
We have a team of 36 people, of which only two are administrative part-timers and one is a driver, two full time administrative staff, one vet, two supervisors, one assistant supervisor, two inspectors in charge of rescue and all the others handlers of animals!
The expenses (not including depreciation) for running our shelters (our cats’ shelter open only at the end of November last year, so this year these costs will jump as only the rent costs us 35,000 patacas per month), and our activity out of Anima in 2016 reached MOP 8,728,414.47!
We were only capable to get an income of MOP 7,990,187.20 in all year of 2016!
This loss, accumulated with the losses of other years, made us to have a huge debt of MOP 2,319,704.91, at the end of 2016!
From the corporations, we were capable to get in 2016, MOP 7.2 million, of which MOP 3.5 million from Macau Foundation, MOP 1.25 million from Wynn Resorts (for paying bills of 2015), MOP 600 thousand from Sands China (of which, MOP 300 thousand for paying bills of 2015), MOP 600 thousand from Rational Live Events Macau Ltd, 200 thousand from GEG (of which MOP 100,000 for paying bills of 2015) and MOP 50 thousand from Melco Crown!
Anima was capable to generate MOP 790,187.20, with individual donors, membership fees, services provided (medical services, accommodation, transportation), godparent program, adoptions fees, events and donation boxes!
For 2017, our first budget, even cutting expenses, will be higher as we have a second shelter open and a new full time staff.
All Board members of Anima are volunteers with exception of our treasury that become, last year in November, a full time staff, accumulating her job with the supervision of Anima Cats’ Paradise!
Our budget for 2017 rounds MOP 8,728,414.47!
If you add now the debits of MOP 2,319,704.91, accumulated up to the end of 2016, you may understand how serious is our financial situation!
We were not capable to increase our donations from corporations in 2016 and we still don’t know how much money we will be capable to receive this year from them.
We were lucky to get the same amount from Macau Foundation for 2017, but for all others donors we really don’t know how much we may get!
Anima is very well organized and managed as a company and every money we spent is properly authorized and monitored!
All moneys that we receive must be supported by an official numbered receipt, unless deposited directly in our bank accounts or introduced in our donation boxes!
As we have no financial capacity to full equip our clinic and recruit a senior vet, we are too much dependent on external clinics for some special cases and emergencies!
The prices of external clinics are amazing high and some times constitute a violence against people and animals!
Please understand if we are not capable to help you as much as we were used to do.
We are making a tremendous effort to find alternative sources of funds!
We need also your help!
Anima may not be capable to survive this year, if we can not get the necessary funds!
Thanks
